Maintaining your hair isn’t something that’s difficult to do, but a lot of people fail to understand a few basics about proper hairdressing. Learn these styling tips and see which methods will give you the hair you’ve always desired.
Look at your diet if you have lifeless or dull hair. Keep your body fueled with vitamin E, iron and omega-3 acids, as they are all essential to keeping your body and hair healthy. If you can’t eat enough of these, try using a well-balanced multivitamin to get what you can’t from food.
Avoid sun damage by using hair products with sunscreen. The sun can damage your hair and may take away the benefits of your every day hair care routine. Taking good care of your hair will make it last longer and preserve your natural color.
Blow drying your hair could actually damage it. Ditch high heat, and use the coolest setting on your hair dryer. Get knots untangled using your fingers so you don’t damage your hair later when brushing it.
When you get out of the ocean, if you like your hair after you’ve gotten out of the water, there are plenty of products which mimic the effects of saltwater. Seek out sprays that are called “salt spray” or another similar name. You can create your own ocean waves at home. Simply add a teaspoon of table or kosher salt in several ounces of water. Then, add a few drops of oil of lavender to complete your mixture.
Be sure to always be gentle with your hair when you use a towel to dry it. Not only will this cause damage to your hair at the roots, but it will also stretch the hair and cause it become frizzy and thin. The best ways to dry your hair using a towel are to gently pat or press out the excess moisture, or simply wrap it in a loose fitting towel. Never brush wet hair with anything but a wide-tooth comb.
Blow Dryer
Try to not use your blow dryer frequently. The heat from blow drying will severely damage hair; whenever possible, allow hair to dry naturally. When you simply must use your blow dryer, try to use the coolest setting possible, and move the dryer around the head constantly. In order to minimize the amount of time you need to use the blow dryer, towel dry your hair first.
If your hair is dull and lifeless use a shampoo that is suited for ‘clarifying’. Letting residues from hairdressing products build up in your hair can make your hair look dull. To avoid this, use a clarifying shampoo a couple times a week so that all gunk and hair product buildup is stripped clean from the hair.
Eating right and not smoking are a couple ways to keep your hair shiny and healthy. Before you decide which care routine will work for your hair, take into account your hair’s texture and other factors first.
